I'm checking on a weekly basis with Esalen. As of today (3-21-2012) they are still only taking reservations for the late-night hot springs on a "day-of" basis because of the uncertainty of the weather (whatever the heck that means). I'll continue checking back with them. As of today I have Skip, Larry, Ruth, JC and Mary for Friday and Skip, Larry, JC & Ruth for Saturday.
How do I get on the waitlist for the hotsprings for Friday and Saturday night?
I'll make reservations for you if & when I ever get through and they're not booked.
We'll see Dougie, we'll see. There are 4 people from SD and I pick up Ruth along the way for 5. JC was a pickup possibility as well. I'll see about a bigger car.
I'm planning on picking you up JC. Ruth is somewhere near the Highways 55 & 5 intersection too, so I can get you both. Sorry for any confusion.

Afraid I have been a little remiss and out of the loop. Looks like the first carpool is full. If other folks want to try to coordinate a second one, I'm game.

Send me an email at dadskip@aol.com or call me at 619-277-4642. It looks like we'll have two cars coming up and room for you (strap you to the hood)...

Alright boys and girls, it's time to start thinking about the Big Sur trip!
Some things to consider: Firewood - you can buy it at the store. It's a little pricey, but sometimes it's hard to shlep along in the car. Camp lantern - I have one I will bring. BBQ - I have two propane BBQs and will bring them. Maybe bring a bottle of your favorite wine to share. There are hot showers and bathroom facilities very close to our camping area. One site also has electricity. Don't forget your campfire chair and sunscreen. I will bring some Yellowfin tuna for the Saturday potluck BBQ. Skip |

I'm happy to bring some killer pasta salad. I too have a camp lantern I can bring. I figured the wine was a given. Still need some carpool coordination. If you can let me know the route people are taking, I'll do my best to find a place to leave my car that's along the way. Thanks. Mark |

Skip - tuna
Mark - killer pasta salad Mary - salad We have enough lanterns. Wine was a given; I'll bring a couple of bottles for the musicians (pay to play!). |
Skipper, we will bring up a gourmet cheese and olive platter and will also make Shrimp Quesadillas. We will also bring plenty of Mad Dog.
Skip - tuna for BBQ
Mark - killer pasta salad Mary - salad JC - chicken, champagne and OJ for mimosas, and cold beer Doug & Maria - gourmet cheese & olive platter; shrimp quesadillas Ruth - Dessert Lillian - is thinking of something equally delicious! It's looking better and better boys and girls! |

Carpools are shaping up, the menu for Saturday night is shaping up, the weather is shaping up and the trip is near! Weather outlook is 65-69 day with 45-46 at night and clear skies. Call Esalen 831-667-3047 for reservations if you don't have any.

I called Esalen and they were full for both nights. I am going to check out the Zen Center. They have springs.
For those unable to make Esalen reservations and wanting something different, here is the URL for Tassajara (get there via Carmel). Their hot springs are open from 9am to 9pm daily with a reservation:
http://www.sfzc.org/tassajara/display.asp?catid=4,19&pageid=2646 "Day guests are welcome to enjoy Tassajara and it's accompanying amenities, including the hotsprings and Japanese-style bath house, meditation in the zendo, access to wonderful trails, scenic creek-side adventures, and the open embrace of the Ventana wilderness."
