Ah, this should be a magnificent trip!

David is modest.  He has worked on the Sierra National Forest as a volunteer wilderness ranger, so he knows the backcountry like few others!

I wonder, though, if he has learned how to lighten his pack!!!    :)

Dr. Murray:

How the heck are you?  This is going to be a great trip.  You should come.  AAW is such an incredible area.

Hey, forget lightening the pack.  I need to lighten the belly!  (bet that makes two of us)

BTW, I finally graduated - got a BSEE.  WooHoo!  Next challenge is to see how long I can put off getting a job...

Cheers

Ken,

What's this talk about light packs??? Anything under 40 lbs. is just a day pack in my book! Anywho, this should be a GREAT trip - the AAW is stunning, particularly at this time of year. I wish I could join you!

Incredible!!

THREE former wilderness rangers from the area!

I can't go, unfortunately, however, I agree with both of you that this is a truly special area, used by almost no one.

BTW:  I hear that Rob has left the USFS, and moved to Montana, where he heads a wilderness advocacy group.

Last I heard, Rob Mason was going off to Montana to be a Forest Supervisor.  Guess that's how rumors get started.  In any case, I heard that there was a girl involved...

Cheers

Ken:

Thanks for the update on Rob, and the link.  I looked at it last night.  It seems like the perfect position for a guy with Rob's dedication to Wilderness.  I'm sure he'll be a terrific steward for them, as he was for us.  Hopefully his replacement here will bring the same care and seriousness that Rob gave to our beloved Sierra NF.   I'm going to miss his influence.

Mike & Connie:

Thanks for your input on the upcoming trip.  Connie, I don't think it's a very good idea to try to meet in the middle.  Not that I doubt your ability, but the conditions are too uncertain to plan a location for a rendevouz.  I'm happy to entertain whatever you wish to propose, but at this point I'm skeptical that we will be able to pull it off.  It might be better to wait until later in the season, when the route will be more predictable.
