Cisco,

Looking forward to an early spring camping trip and ride around Hurkey.  Let me know what to bring for dinner, I can bring a small grill.

Cisco,

It looks like it might rain next weekend.  Will this still be on?

Cisco,

At 5000' there could be snow.  What do you plan to do about that?

Yup, I saw that.  The trip needs to happen as some of us will be racing, possibly under the same conditions, on the 29th of this month.  Also, two of the guys on the team don't know the course.

I'm not very good with logistics, so I'm counting on others to help with anything that we may need to make this a good experience.

Bring leg warmers and a good design for a snowman.

Cisco,

Won't they postpone it if it rains?  Anyways, riding in the rain is one thing but camping in the rain is another.  It's really miserable.  You are wet, muddy and cold.  Unless you have some sort of tarp or other shelter, you either stand in the rain, huddle under a tree (if it actually provides any shelter at all) or climb into your tent and sleep.  Also, it's hard to cook or have a fire so you can get pretty cold and hungry.  Other than that, it's fine.

Are there any hotels (cheap) in the area?

Randy,

As far as I know, the organizers won't postpone this event.

Hemet is near-by and the accomodations should be affordable.

As far as camping in the rain, never done it... the tarp deal is a good idea.  As I mentioned to Kent yesterday, we just need to make friends with someone that has an RV for this type of trip.

As far as cold and hungry... well, it's only one afternoon, night and morning.  I'm pretty sure most of us can survive without warm food for that long!

Indio is just over the hill. Indio, Motel 6-sleeps 4 with breakfast-$62

We could go play polo, my latest addiction, in Indio.

I thought you didn't have a horse.  $15.25 for a dry room is well worth it as a backup plan.

He's retired, in Indio, living with a bunch of polo ponies.

I hope it snows as supposed to rain.
Having a fire pit in the snow with wet wood should not be a problem.
We( built one before ) ask Kent !!
Bring a good sleeping bag or plan on sleeping in your car.
It should not be soo bad !!!

I can provide two propane tanks for heat if that helps any.
It would be an awesome experience for everyone to ride on the snow !!!
I'll try to be there !!!

All,
Please let me know who you are carpooling with, and if you need to partner up, that you need someone to carpool with.  I will update this post with carpools.

There is a possibility of rain this Saturday. Please keep that in mind. Someone mentioned bringing tarps...  I will be bringing one.

Food; Let's all bring something for sharing on Saturday.  If you can, let me know what you are bringing so that we don't all bring chips/salsa.  If someone has a stove/bbq, we can bring something to bbq.

This is what people brought last year (some ideas for this year)

  • Baguette and cold cuts
  • Couscous vegetable salad
  • Mediterranean pasta salad
  • Fruit Salad
  • Cookies
  • Veggies and Dip
  • firewood
  • Sausages
  • Hot chocolate (Lois)
  • Smores ingredients
  • Water
  • soft drinks and marshmallows
  • Beer
  • Watermelon and chips
  • Hot dog buns, salsa and some garbage bags
  • hot dogs and skewers
  • more veggies and garbage bags
  • water and hummus

FIREWOOD:  Last time we purchased firewood locally.  Does anybody remember where this was?  Campfire is a must!

I can bring my 2 burner coleman stove but I'm bailing out early on Sunday morning (skipping the ride).  I'll also bring a case of beer and 2 2 gallon water jugs.

O.K., I'll bring the hot chocolate.  And the designer sausages.

If anyone thinks that he/she needs hot dog buns to go with them then maybe you can bring those.

And don't forget to bring a cup and a plate, etc.  Last year a lot of people failed to do so. Or someone could bring some paper plates and utensils.

Hi all,

Greg is fighting a cold.  He's hoping to get better by Friday so we can go.  Hence, I'll let you guys know via email on Friday if we can make it.  Cisco, we'll pay for our share of the campsite fees whether we go or not.  I'll bring baguette and cold cuts and wood.

Cisco,

I will not be carpooling, not going back to OC immediately on Sunday, heading out to my Parents house.

The firewood is on the right at the bottom of the mountain.  I believe there is sort of a sign with spray paint on it, nothing fancy.  I will stop and get some firewood.  I suggest that more than one person get wood.

I will bring a small gas grill, it works pretty well.  I am going to bring hamburgers/chesse/buns/chips.

If you need me to bring anything else, let me know today.

Nick,

I'll stop and get some firewood as well.  Thanks for bringing all of the other stuff.
