Here is some more info for the course. It is full at this time, but I am trying to add another instructor. The course is a beginner course, so no experience is needed. No equipment is required. It will be provided, but if you have it bring it.   I have been out of town, so I've not been able to finalize any locations. I hope to do that soon. The cost listed is only for the course. If you check out the few other local options, you will see the price is very reasonable. There will be an additional fee for camping, but that will be very minimal. When I know a location, I will arrange the camping. Food is on your own. When the list is final, that will be the time to start arranging for carpools.

I had a question about weather, so if anyone else is wondering rain will not cancel the course.  You have to be prepared to get wet if you are a canyoneer.  Remember The instructor is coming from Utah.  It will take more than a little rain to cancel the course.

Also, water is an important part of doing canyons. You need to be prepared to rap down a waterfall or swim when needed.  Though, the technical course doesn't cover water descents that is in an advanced class.  However, we have many wet canyons in the San Gabriels.  Water is an aspect of canyoneering here.

I will try to find some kind of more sheltered area or hopefully an inside (don't count on it) area if there is bad weather to do some of the things like knots.

Hi Scully,

If you mean the San Gabriel chapter of the ACA, then just go to the main website, canyoneering.net and there is a link to the local chapters. It is run off a yahoo group.

If you mean the Technical Canyoneering course that I am coordinating, please sign up on the wait list.

Ok, time to start the logistics planning.

If you prefer to stay at a hotel rather than camp and want to find a roomie post that info here.  So far, I believe Kanita and Rebecca are interested.   I've also sent out who lives where so you can check out carpooling info here as well.

looking forward to the activities and hanging with the group.  i'm staying w/ friends who live 10 mins away.  But will certainly hang w/ group afterwards to practice knots, dinner, etc.    i'll be a commuter.    What are other folks doing?

I live about 20 minutes away from SP, so I was planning on going home at the end of the day... but my plans are not set in concrete, especially since we don't know trip specifics.  But yeah, I'll pretty much be a commuter too. Do we know what times in the am we are meeting and until what time in the evenings or afternoons??

There will be at least one day that runs late.  Rich will let you know which day.  Even if you decide not to camp, you can always join the campers for knot practice and such after class for a while.

My plan is to camp out with the group, but will confirm once more information is provided on start/end times each day.  I do know, however, I have another event Friday night and may need to leave the group that evening and return saturday morning.

Okay.  Paul and I are looking for another body or two to share the room at Ramada Inn. in Chatsworth.  We are arriving on late Thursday night.  The inn is 1.37 miles, cost $74.40 for 2 and $5/pp/pn for each addition person.  It has restaurants and a swimming pool with hot tub.  Looks pretty good from the virtual tour.   Continental breakfast and newspapers included.

Do e-mail me if you are interested.

Hello all.  I will be arriving with Kirk on Wednesday night or Thursday morning.  We will likely be staying in the hotel with Kanita and Paul.

Hi all, definitely not camping at this point.

Thanks for going to the trouble to research and set it up as an option, Trudy.
