Brandy, you may want to sign up on the trip listing, here, also.  You don't have to, but it allows me to include you in information on carpools, side trips, last minute issues, plus it gives me a contact list for anything in the future.

Thanks Ken...I just signed up. I'll be coming up with my three kids ages 2, 5 and 7 and a friend with her two kids ages 2 and 5. Since it's kind of a long drive for three days we're planning to continue on to Yosemite after the Trail Crew trip. We're really looking forward to this volunteer opportunity!

Hi everyone, I'm coming in from the San Fernando Valley; that's a long drive. Anyone want to carpool?

Ken, I tried to sign up at trail crew webiste, but registration is suspended for now while they work on new forms. Maybe a follow up email later to remind people that can't register now to do so closer to the event would be a good idea?

Anyone in Nevada.... I'll be driving from Minden, NV...  (Minden: near carson city, near Lake Tahoe, and 45 min. from Reno)...

I can take one person with me....

Do you know how to get from Minden to the H. Lake?

Thanks

Pui

Pui, directions:

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?

For destination, I'd input Huntington Lake.

However, for you, Pui, the directions it gives has two major flaws:  One, it takes you through Yosemite, a slow drive, that you have to pay the entrance fee to transit; and two, I cannot believe that the road will be cleared of snow by that time.

I'd head over the Sierra via Hwy 50, I think.

Ken,

I haven't signed up as of yet but am interested. I do live in the area and have a question. Right now there is a 7 foot snow pack at  Tamarack Ridge (elevation 7582 ft.). Does Shane have alternative plans should the backcountry be still not accessable at this time?

Hi, Gary!

To be sure, there is great debate going on about dealing with the great snow load.  We will definitely have alternatives, or in the worst case, cancel, if it is just undoable.

We will have a recon of the trails within about two weeks of the trip.

The US Forest Service person who supervises our work, during the winter is the head of the Ski Patrol at Sierra Summit, so we are getting regular reports.  He is also feeding us info from the backcountry.

I look forward to meeting you, I see you've had little luck with participation with your posted trips, into great areas, winter and summer.

Maybe we can collaborate on some things!

Ken

Hi, I live in San Jose, CA and I am looking for car pool. I would like to live on Thursday morning but I need to confirm with my manager whether I could take the whole day off by mid Apr. Else, I could live after 3:00 p.m.

Thanks

A number of people have asked about carpools, which is certainly the way to arrange things, to be sure.

My experience on these long distance trips involving a lot of people, is that there is a fair amount of addiing and dropping in the last month, so most people end up making those arrangements in the last 2-3 weeks, which would be around 5/1 or so.  It always seems to work out pretty well.

I guess it's just that the time frame beyond that is just tough for people to think in terms of a committment.  I know it's tough for me to think what I'm doing on a thursday, two months from now!

So don't be discouraged by a lack of responses, at this point.

Also,  the management of the trip has worked out alternative activities, in the case of overwhelming snow.

Hi Caroline,

I didn't see your name on the Trailcrew forum site. I am not sure how the outdoor club discussion board and trai crew dicussion board related to each other but Shane the organizer from trailcrew posted a list of people going to this trip and they are people in outdoors club not showing on his list.

Ken, any comment??

Hi Ken, My concern for asking car pool right now is I didn't anybody goes from San Jose or Santa Clara county. The closer one is from San Francisco and I am not sure whether they would like to car pool or not.

Thanks

Hi

I am very interested in bringing my dog on the project.  Tell me more.  Can he come with me while working?  He is a Golden and well mannered, except he likes to chase squrills. I am interested in the projects that require hiking

thanks, sharon  (from Merced)

Lee, and others:  If you go to the TrailCrew page where people are officially signed up, you can see where they are coming from, then directly contact them.
