Event Description

The desert forecast for Saturday looks good.  Even if there is light rain west of the mountains, it should be nice in the desert.  Looking forward to a fun hike.  If you are carpooling from San Diego, see you at 8 AM at Rancho Penasquitos Park and Ride.

This is an interesting and beautiful desert hike in Anza Borrego State Park.  We hike across a bajada where the desert wildflowers and cactus should be blooming after the rains and then hike up a canyon, criss-crossing a stream and climbing over large granite boulders until we get to a beautiful palm grove.  Beyond the palm grove we hike to a waterfall known as Maidenhair Falls for its many maidenhair ferns.  The hike is around 6 to 8 miles long and involves cross country desert travel and rock scrambling.  This is an adventurous hike and will take around 4 to 5 hours.  You should be in good shape.  If time permits, we will hike further up the canyon.

Bring boots, water, lunch and windbreaker.

We will meet Saturday morning at the Anza Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center at 10:30 AM.  Meet at the flagpole near the parking lot See Visitor Center link:

If you want to carpool from the San Diego area, let me know and we will meet at the Penasquitos Park and Ride at 8 AM.   Take Interstate 15 to the Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard/Poway Rd exit.  The lot is located just west of I-15 on Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard next to the McDonalds.
