Event Description

Let's ride!  Light rain will not cancel.

SIGN UP ON THE ODC WEBSITE, so I can e-mail you if the situation changes.  I really don't like it if you don't sign up.

This ride is a variation of the Back Bay Ride of the past.  At the last Back Bay Ride (#VII)  we rode inland as far as we could before light became an issue.  We stopped just short of the Irvine Spectrum.  The ride took us about 2 hours.  This time, if we start by 2:15, we should be able to make it to the Irvine Spectrum.

This ride is strictly on bike paths...no cars!  Beginners who are afraid of being able to complete the ride can ride part of the way and turn around and go back.  Overacheiving advanced riders can split off and do the ride twice.  The rest of us can cruise along and gossip to our hearts content.

We will meet at 2:00 pm at the beginning of the bike trail on Irvine Ave and/or where the cars are parked on Santiago.    We will ride at 2:15 pm.

ROUTE:   We will follow the trail alongside the Back Bay to  the Jamboree bridge and continue inland along the San Diego Creek for about 10 miles to the Irvine Spectrum where we will turn around and come back. At the Jamboree bridge we can continue with the loop around the Back Bay going clockwise for another 5 miles or we can return to our cars (about 1 mile) .

I estimate that this will take between 2 to 3 hours depending on the speed of the group.  I recommend that you bring a helmet, water, a wind breaker and a spare tube for the ride and warmer clothes for after.

DIRECTIONS:  To get there  take the 405 to the 55 frwy south  to the 22nd street exit and go east (to the left) on 22nd. 22nd street becomes Santiago about 3 blocks before Irvine Ave.  Or take the 73 to the Irvine/Campus exit and go south on Irvine about 1 1/2 miles to Santiago.  Or from PCH go north on Dover to Irvine Ave, turn right on Irvine Ave. to Santiago.

PARKING:  There is street parking on Santiago.

I will probably be riding to the trail from my house in Costa Mesa.  If it's pouring rain, I probably won't ride. I can't receive e-mail on the weekend so if you need to send me a message, do it before 5:00 pm on Friday.

If enough people are interested we can do dinner afterwards.
