Trip Report
|
Through the wind, rain, and the mud, three of us hard core hikers made it to potato chip rock, the summit of Mt. Woodson. The conditions weren't to bad in the beginning, but the higher we went the more wind and rain we encountered. We did find a beautiful waterfall on our way down. Overall, it turned out to be a good hike. I will repost it when the weather clears up.

| Event Description |
This is a 7 mile round trip hike to the top of Mt. Woodson. I have not taken this route up to the summit before, so if you sign up for the trip keep that in mind. It is an up and back hike, the elevation gain is approximately 2300'. There are some steep and narrow sections so I have labeled this as intermediate. We can meet in the Lake Poway parking lot at 9am and start hiking at 915.
From I15 north or south get off on Rancho Bernardo Rd and head east. Rancho Bernardo Rd turns into Espola Rd as it curves to the south. Make a left turn (go east) on Lake Poway Rd. I will be wearing my Outdoors club shirt.
According to the Lake Poway website, parking is $4.00. Bring lunch to enjoy at the summit and enough water to last between 4 and 5 hours, depending how fast or slow we hike. Wear shoes with good traction as there are some rocky parts.
As of now there is a 40% chance of rain on Sunday, so dress accordingly. If there is a heavy storm the hike is canceled, but otherwise we will go on.
Email me if you have any questions. Most of all, lets get ready to have fun. |
