This is a two day tripe to Valentine Lake up by the Mammoth Lakes. Ive never been to Valentine Lake, but was turn on to it by a friend at work who has backpacked and fished this lake many times. He discribed it as a nice stroll to a streniouse climb up a swish backed climb. A totale elevaton gain of 1,900 feet this back packing tripe should be a good tripe. Although this is open to beginners Id like those sighning up to have had one other back packing tripe in thier life and be in good shape because of the aluituide. The lake is at 10,000 feet wich is the elevation of Mt. Baldy in So. California. Bring your fishing pole because the lake is freashly stocked. Because of the altuide there is little to no fire wood from reports so a back stove will be needed for cooking.
It is a moderate to stenuous five mile back pack hike to the lake where we will camp over night and pack out the following late afternoon.
Directions to the trail head. Drive about 28.5 miles south of Lee Vining on Highway 395 to Sherwin Creek Road and turn right. Drive about 3.5 miles west on Sherwin Creek Road to the sign for Sherwin Lakes trailhead and turn right. Park at the lot about 0.4 mile from the turn. Please meet at the trail head at 10 am on Saturday morring. We'll wait till 10:30 for anyone delayed in traffic, flate tire etc. Please call me on my cell phone if your are going to be much latter then that. Anyone fishing make sure you have a fishing license. These can be picked up at the Inyo National Forest Ranger Station in Bishop.
If for some reason that we can't hike there because say a forest fire I have a back up camping distanation of the Brisole Cone Forest.
