Event Description

Join me on my Ericson 35 Mk II sailboat for a three day trip to Catalina (Saturday, Sunday, Monday). We will spend the night at Twin Harbors Anchorage and a night at Emerald Cove. We can go ashore for dinner and drinks the first night and barbecue on the boat the second night. The water should be warm enough for swimming and we can also take some great hikes.

If you get seasick easily, or anti-seasickness drugs don't work for you, this is not for you or anyone on the boat with you.

I can almost promise we will be visited by dolphins. If we are especially lucky, maybe a whale will swim by. We will meet at the boat at 9:00 A.M. sharp and leave soon there after. It should take us about 6 or 7 hours to get to Catalina.

Be sure to bring a warm jacket, a sleeping bag, deck shoes or shoes with a white or gum colored sole that will not mark the deck, food for 3 lunches, 2 breakfasts and 1 barbecue dinner, refreshments and snacks. I have found that sharing food is fun so expect to participate in a potluck or two. However, do not bring too much food as storage is a problem. I have a small icebox so feel somewhat free to bring items that need to stay cool. Please don’t plan on bringing a hard shell (or backpack etc.) ice box on board the boat. Try and keep you other items limited to one medium sized duffel bag.

I will give priority to those with sailing experience and I’m also looking for a little gender balance. So, if you want to come along sign up on the waiting list and if we don’t already know each other, give me a bit of information about sailing experience, if any. This is the reason the active spots are so few. If NOAA predicts the change of rain at 30% or more or gale force winds, we cancel.

Money: There is no charge for the trip but a donation of about $30.00 (for stove fuel, mooring rental and maintenance) would be appreciated.

Directions to Boat: From the intersection of Venice & Lincoln Blvds:

Go south on Lincoln Blvd about 0.4 miles.
Turn Right on W Washington Blvd and then 0.7 miles to a Left on Palawan Way, Cross Admiralty Way and continue on Palawan Way. On your right will be Mother’s Beach (If you are on the side that the Cheese Cake Factory is on, you are on the wrong side of Mother's Beach) On your left will be a public parking lot.

Go in the parking lot, unload your stuff and we will then convoy to a parking lot where you are much less likely to get at ticket. From there, I will drive everyone back to the boat.

The boat is in slip 2906 – you can almost spit on it from the public parking lot.
