Event Description

COME ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF LAGUNA BEACH.      WILL WILL BE HIKING ABOUT 4- 5 HOURS

FREE PARKING.  NO DOG ALLOWED

What you'll need for this hike: Two liters of water or other fluids, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, trail shoes, a good joke and a snack/lunch. There isn't much shade on this hike, so sunscreen and a hat are essential.

Directions: Google Dunnegan Dr. and Dartmoor St., Laguna Beach.

Take the 133 fwy, and after it ends, keep going straight to PCH. Turn right on PCH, then right again on San Joaquin. In 0.1 mi., make a right onto Hillcrest, then an almost immediate left on Dartmoor St. Follow it to the end where the trail begins. The 133 fwy. can be avoided by getting to PCH from other directions. San Joaquin is south of the 133 fwy.

You can use 312 Dartmoor St. as the destination if you use a vehicle GPS navigation system, which will put you next to the trail head at Gate 14.

FROM THE LAST HOUSE. This 8+mile conditioning hike has stunning views of the ocean and a couple of challenging hills. Starting on Boat Canyon Trail, about a 15-20% grade truck trail, we'll climb for about 1/2 mile. At the top, the trail becomes relatively flat with a few rises and descents. We'll make a left and hike along Bommer Ridge for about two miles or so until we hit Emerald Trail, which goes down into the canyon. From there, we'll head over to Old Emerald Trail, a mile-long (or so) pretty single track trail that goes up and out of the canyon and back to Bommer Ridge. Old Emerald Trail will challenge your legs and lungs, but if you've done Dreaded Hill or Mathis, or some of the more challenging hills, you won't have a problem with it. On the return hike, we'll have expansive views of the ocean and, if we're lucky, a cool sea breeze. We'll be hiking for about 2.5-3 hours.

These are the trails:

Boat Canyon
Bommer Ridge
Emerald Trail
Old Emerald Trail
Bommer Ridge
Boat Canyon

Due to the fact that the trail head is in a neighborhood and parking is limited, the hike will be strictly limited to 20 participants. Please don't take up space by being a NO-SHOW. PLEASE CARPOOL IF POSSIBLE.

NOT FOR BEGINNING HIKERS

Please be cognizant of the fact that we'll be invading people's peace in the morning and taking up a lot of the parking in their neighborhood. Do not park in people's driveways and be aware of the no-parking signs.

RAIN WILL CANCEL HIKE IF 72 HOURS PRIOR.
