Trip Report

The water flow over the falls was the most I've ever seen there. A nice way to spend the day. The weather was a bit chilly at first, but warmed up ideally after lunch. ..... Emil

| Event Description |
Spend part of New Year’s Eve by celebrating the beauty of some of this country’s wondrous natural local wilderness scenery in the Ramona area. This is an intermediate hike, but quite suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness level. Hopefully, the Devil’s Jumpoff will be a spectacular watery sight due to the recent heavy rains. Along the way, we will take a short side hike to a scenic overlook revealing a breathtaking view of the San Diego River Canyon. You’ll need comfortable outdoor footwear, 1-2 qts. water, lunch / snacks, appropriate clothing for existing weather conditions (rain or shine) and a positive, adventurous attitude. Meeting place for recommended carpooling will be at the Riverford Rd. park and ride in Lakeside. From highway 67 northbound, exit at Riverford Rd., Turn left onto Woodside Ave, go just past Riverford Rd. and turn left into the very next driveway into the park and ride. Be there by 9:15 AM. If coming from points north, you may want to meet at the trailhead at the east end of Ramona Oaks Road (just past Shalom Rd. and at the bottom of West Side road). Be there by 9:45 AM. |
