Trip Report
There were very few trail signs, so finding the way, even with Schad's description, wasn't completely straightforward. However, because we were able to see the Twin Peaks from most points along the way, we found the trail with only a little trial and error. Early morning haze burned off before we set out. Even so, the view from the summit wasn't ideal. We saw Tooth Rock, Lake Poway, the Lake Ramona Dam and Lake Hodges. For a really clear view you have to climb the peaks during a Santa Ana spell. There's apparently only one well-trodden path to the summit, and it goes to the higher peak.

Location in POWAY, CA
Event Type Backpacking, Hiking, Camping
Event Description

This is a short hike, only about two miles round trip, but with some scrambling up and down a steep, rocky trail. We start at Silverset Park in Poway (Thomas 1190 D1) and climb to the summits of the Twin Peaks. The views from the top are quite good. We'll return by the same route. Schad says it's a moderate 1-1/2 hour hike.

The meeting time is 9:00 AM, we hit the trail at 9:15 AM.

Wear good hiking shoes and take water and a snack. Take a camera if you wish. Sun protection is recommended.

For Mapquest or Google Maps users, the approximate address of Silverset Park is 13000 Triumph Dr., Poway CA 92064.

View of Twin Peaks from Twin Peaks Rd.

I've done this hike once before, more than ten years ago. Not much has changed, but this time I should get some good pictures.

Rain or wildfire will cancel the hike.
