Event Date/Time 9/14/2008 from N/A to N/A
Location in LAGUNA BEACH, CA
Event Type Road Biking, Mountain Biking
Event Description A fun place to ride for all level riders! We'll meet at 400pm, ride for a few hours, then eat nearby. you should be in good (though not olympic!) shape for this ride.

remember your helmet (absolutely required), water, gloves for riding, and a sweater (it will be warm at the beginning, but cool when we finish). You should have a mountain-type bike with lots of gears and knobby tires.

This ride is great for taking that bike you've been riding on the paved paths and learning how to ride on dirt

if you are a true beginner (dirt novice), we'll give you some tips and have you ride with us for the first five miles. you will go over a section of mostly flat road, then some pretty flat double-track trail, then a long stretch of sandy fire-road. depending on how comfortable you feel, you can join us on some really fun and not too hard single-track that parallels the road or continue on it. we'll then meet up again, and the fire-road starts going up some gentle hills. at the end of the road if you are feeling good, you can follow the main group up some steeper single-track and descend with us on more challenging trails (there are several levels of difficulty to choose from), or if you're tired and need more bike handling practice, you can retrace our route back down the fire-road to the parking lot while we go up the hills. if you already have a few rides under your belt, then you shouldn't have much problem keeping with the main group! either way, we usually grab a bite at the nearby food court afterwards and chat!

More advanced riders will continue up a single-track climb and onto another fire road which climbs up the hills. There are a variety of descending trails for riders of all levels, ranging from wide, fast fire road to almost unridable single track and rocky drops. 10-15 miles, less than a thousand feet of elevation.

To get to the park, take the 5 freeway to the Alicia Parkway exit. Head South/West (towards to ocean, a right turn if you exit from the southbound 5) for appx. 5 miles. Go over Pacific Parkway, the 73 freeway, and aliso creek. Turn right 1/4 mile past aliso creek on AMWA road (there is a sign for the park entrance). Park in the big dirt lot on the left($3 in singles) or on the street for free if you can find a space (don't park in the church lot accross the street, you might get towed).

Meet at the big rocks in front of the entrance gate.
