Trip Report
|
Well what can I say!!! Once again we had a fantastic turn-out for our annual hike. 32 enthusiastic and energetic folks came out in the cold of the day to enjoy the wonderful hike through Bear Canyon. The morning temperature was pretty cool and the winds in the early part of the hike was bone chilling. Once we started down into the canyuon the winds were gone and everyone really was enjoying themselves. The day warmed a bit and we all had a great time. The rains the night before kept the dust down but there was not any change in the srteam. still low but with more rains that should change. From start to finish in only 5 hours. Right on schedule.
Thanks to all who made the day a bit more enjoyable for everyone in attendance.
Thank you.

| Event Description |
Come and join us on as we embark on our annual hike through Bear Canyon. This semi-wilderness canyon located so close to the city but visited by relatively few people. A beautiful isolated canyon with pools and calm relaxing spots where one can sit and ponder. Fall is in the air so the canyon will be littered with leaves. Breathtaking to say the least.
The hike is about 9 miles one-way and almost the entire hike is down hill. There is one stretch of up hill out of the canyon floor that is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile. Other than that it is really a cake walk. There are many stream crossings once we get to the canyon floor, but nothing that anyone can't make. Some may be considered a bit tricky but all in all you'll love it. There are no areas one should get wet. At this time the stream should be low. In the event there may be heavy rains a few days before, well then the water level will be up and yes, the possibility is there for getting just a bit wet. That is very minor to say the least.
As many of you know, I have adopted this canyon and with the help of many of you we have been working on clearing the trail of tree's and brush as well as rebuilding the trail. The Forest Service in 2008 might be rebuilding many sections of the trail, but we can not wait for them to put it back up on the bench so travel through will be like it was 30 years ago... NICE & SWEET. The Bear Canyon Trail has been for years considered one of the worst open hiking trails in the entire Angeles National Forest. But with the help of so many this HAS changed dramatically!!
THIS IS A SHUTTLE HIKE!!! For those driving, an Adventure Pass is required.
Wear good hiking boots or walking shoes, bring a lunch, hat & water. Optional items may include a camera, sunscreen and anything you might like to put in your backpack.
If you have any questions or if you plan on joining us, PLEASE let me know so we won't leave without you. Do you have friends that enjoy a peaceful day in the mountains??? Please pass this on to them.
We will be meeting @ 8:00am in La Canada on Angeles Crest Highway, 200 yards north of the 210 freeway. If you miss us there, be at Switzers Picnic area, 9 miles up the Crest, by 8:30am. From Switzers we'll carpool to the start point at Eaton Saddle.
See you on the mountain.
P.S. If you have ever hiked on this trail I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
PLEASE write to the Forest Service @

Let them know that the trail camp in Bear Canyon needs an outhouse!! If enough people write, someday WE may see it happen. The words of the masses will conquer all. I bring it up every month at our meetings but now I need the help of all my friends. Please take a minute and write a short note. You will forever be remembered for this simple act of kindness. Even if you never go there, others that love that little piece of heaven will remember.
Thank you!
