Trip Report
In spite of gray skies, the group decided to press on with the hike. Luckily, there was no rain until after the hike. The sun made a slight appearance as we started up the ridge. The wind gave us a chill but the views were spectacular. Overall, it was a pleasant trip and a good workout with smiles all around.

Event Description Spring is in the air! Let's enjoy 6 miles of beautiful scenery and fresh air as we hike through Green Valley then climb up and over Pine Ridge. It's a little steep on the way up with a series of switchbacks. But nothing we all can't handle. We'll have a close-up look at the devastation and the amazing regrowth that is occurring since the wildfires. Green Valley is one of the few places that was spared, so there is much remaining oak woodland here. Elevation gain: 600 ft.

Be sure to brings snacks or lunch for the side trip to Green Valley Falls where we'll recharge before our short hike back to the parking area.

Please Note: This hike is through designated wilderness. Sorry but, dogs are not allowed on the trail.

Meeting Time: 9:45 AM at the SWEETWATER Parking Lot.
Do not park at Green Valley unless you want to pay $6.
Hike starts at 10:00 AM

Directions:
From San Diego - Take I-8 East to the Hwy 79 offramp. It's marked 'Exit 40' with a big sign that says "Cuyamaca Rancho State Park." (It's way past Alpine, just after the view point). Turn left and go North on 79 towards Julian. Don't miss the left turn up the road past Descanso Junction. Look for the sign that says "Lake Cuyamaca" & "Cuyamaca State Park." The parking area is the SWEETWATER Parking Lot by the bridge over the Sweetwater river, on the right side of the road, 1/2 mile past Green Valley campground. You can't miss it. There should be enough parking. If not, there are other alternatives. We'll sort it out if we need to.

Bring water, sunscreen, good hiking shoes and a hat. Cameras are a good idea too.
Don't forget snacks or something for lunch!
